Something for everyone…
Around 50 practitioners enjoyed a thought-provoking conference at The Ark in Basingstoke on Thursday 28th April. Vascular surgeons, aesthetic doctors and nurses, microsclerotherapists – all were catered for, in a wide-ranging and innovative programme.
Guest speakers included Dr Patrizia Pavei, specialist in phlebological surgery at Padova Hospital in Italy, who spoke on the indications and best technique for treating varicose veins, reticular varices and telangiectases.
Dr Savita Rangarajan, Consultant Haematologist at Basingstoke and Winchester, explained the risk factors & management of thrombophlebitis and DVT.
Mr Philip Coleridge Smith, President of the BAS, enumerated the complications of foam and liquid sclerotherapy, and explained how to avoid them; Dr Martyn King, BAS board member and owner/senior aesthetic clinician at Cosmedic Clinic in Tamworth, presented a critical evaluation of the evidence for compression after sclerotherapy. Dr Steve Tristram, BAS Chairman, shared enlightening “Top Tips”, and was very well received.
Live demonstrations of foam and microsclerotherapy gave an invaluable opportunity to observe different techniques and to ask questions.
In a novel departure from the typical sclerotherapy focus at BAS meetings, Ms Pam Underdown, CEO of Aesthetic Business Transformations, reminded delegates in a stimulating presentation of the importance of maximising the value of social media, networking, and building partnerships with clients. Mark Bugg (owner of Web Marketing Clinic) enlightened the audience on the value of Google marketing, and Richard Crawford Small emphasised the importance of ‘mapping’ your patient journey to ensure you are easy to do business with.
